Causes and risk factors:

The exact cause is unknown, however, it could have been caused by an autoimmune disease which attacks the melanocyte cells by mistake. It could also be caused by trauma to the skin such as sunburn, genetics, environmental factors such as exposure to chemicals, oxidative stress where there is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body and other factors.

Treatment:

Until recently, it was thought there was no cure for hypopigmentation conditions such as Vitiligo. However, there is now a treatment for Vitiligo which is ‘Skin Pen Precision Microneedling’. Skin Pen is an FDA-approved treatment for vitiligo and we recommend booking a course of treatments.

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a complex skin condition characterised as a lack of pigment in the skin (hypopigmentation), which often presents as white patches on the face or body. This is caused by the melanin-producing cells (melanocytes) in the skin that have either died or been severely damaged.
